In all societies, male and female roles are regarded differently. The mother role is universally carried out by women, which is biologically based. Roles defined by sex also characterize the economic sphere so that the tasks men perm are different from those women perm. This difference is not any outgrowth of the biological differences between men and women. A specific task may be associated with men in one society and with women in another. Milking herd animals, example, may be women's task in some societies and a man's task in others.Males and females are each associated with different kinds of behavior. These concepts of male and female behavior extended to how people walk, sit, talk and dress. In our society, as in all others, men walk and talk in certain ways and until recently dressed very differently from women. In some societies, different spatial areas are associated with males and females. Women in many Middle Eastern societies are restricted to certain parts of the house and may only come into contact with the males who are members of their family. In such societies, the coffee house and the market are defined as male domains. In contrast, in some West African societies, women most often appear in the marketplace. Sometimes, men choose to carry out female rather than male roles. In some cases, some men dress like women and perm female tasks. On the other hand, females who carry out male roles usually dress and act like men. Because of women's association with mothering and the home, women are associated with the domestic affairs and men are associated with the public affairs. In a number of New Guinea societies, men are associated with the men's house in which they eat and sleep while women are associated with their own dwelling houses. In our own and other Western societies this division was true until the beginning of the th century. Politics, the courts, businesses, banks, and so th were male areas, and so too were the social clubs where real business was carried out. At the beginning of the th century, women began to question the assignment of the male and female role. They med social groups and began to demand the right to vote. They began to move into the business and professional worlds as well. Men regarded the women pioneers in this movement as very manlike. Even today women in business, law or banking wear very tailored, conservative suits to work. As these changes occur in female roles in contemporary American society, men are increasingly taking on child care and domestic tasks. 997双语盘点:女人发飙爱用的危险语句 -- :5:39 来源: 1. Topaz Topaz is a hard, transparent mineral. It is a compound of aluminum, silica, and fluorine. Gem topaz is valuable. Jewelers call this variety of the stone "precious topaz". The best-known precious topaz gems range in color from rich yellow to light brown or pinkish red. Topaz is one of the hardest gem minerals. In the mineral table of hardness, it has a rating of 8, which means that a knife cannot cut it, and that topaz will scratch quartz. The golden variety of precious topaz is quite uncommon. Most of the world's topaz is white or blue. The white and blue crystals of topaz are large, often weighing thousands of carats. this reason, the value of topaz does not depend so much on its size as it does with diamonds and many other precious stones, where the value increases about four times with each doubling of weight. The value of a topaz is largely determined by its quality. But color is also important blue topaz, instance, is often irradiated to deepen and improve its color. Blue topaz is often sold as aquamarine and a variety of brown quartz is widely sold as topaz. The quartz is much less brilliant and more plentiful than true topaz. Most of it is a variety of amethyst that heat has turned brown. 637

At a young and tender age, Patti Wilson was told by her doctor that she was an epileptic. Her father, Jim Wilson, is a morning jogger. One day she smiled through her braces and said, "Daddy what I'd really love to do is run with you every day, but I'm afraid I'll have a seizure."Her father told her, "If you do, I know how to handle it, so let's start running!"That's just what they did every day. It was a wonderful experience them to share and there were no seizures at all while she was running. After a few weeks, she told her father, "Daddy, what I'd really love to do is break the world's long-distance running record women."Her father checked the Guiness Book of World Records and found that the farthest any woman had run was 80 miles. As a freshman in high school, Patti announced, "I'm going to run from Orange County up to San Francisco." (A distance of 00 miles.) "As a sophomore," she went on, "I'm going to run to Portland, Oregon." (Over 00 miles.) "As a junior I'll run to St. Louis." (About 00 miles) "As a senior I'll run to the White House." (More than 3000 miles away.)In view of her handicap, Patti was as ambitious as she was enthusiastic, but she said she looked at the handicap of being an epileptic as simply "an inconvenience." She focused not on what she had lost, but on what she had left. That year, she completed her run to San Francisco wearing a T-shirt that , "I Love Epileptics." Her dad ran every mile at her side, and her mom, a nurse, followed in a motor home behind them in case anything went wrong. In her sophomore year, Patti's classmates got behind her. They built a giant poster that , "Run, Patti, Run!" (This has since become her motto and the title of a book she has written.) On her second marathon, en route to Portland, she fractured a bone in her foot. A doctor told her she had to stop her run. He said, "I've got to put a cast on your ankle so that you don't sustain permanent damage.""Doc, you don't understand," she said. "This isn't just a whim of mine, it's a magnificent obsession! I'm not just doing it me, I'm doing it to break the chains on the brains that limit so many others. Isn't there a way I can keep running?" He gave her one option. He could wrap it in adhesive instead of putting it in a cast. He warned her that it would be incredibly painful, and he told her, "It will blister." She told the doctor to wrap it up.She finished the run to Portland, completing her last mile with the governor of Oregon. You may have seen the headlines "Super Runner, Patti Wilson Ends Marathon Epilepsy On Her th Birthday."After four months of almost continuous running from West Coast to the East Coast, Patti arrived in Washington and shook the hand of the President of ed States. She told him, "I wanted people to know that epileptics are normal human beings with normal lives."I told this story at one of my seminars not long ago, and afterward a big teary-eyed man came up to me, stuck out his big meaty hand and said, "Mark, my name is Jim Wilson. You were talking about my daughter, Patti." Because of her noble efts, he told me, enough money had been raised to open up 19 multi-million-dollar epileptic centers around the country. If Patti Wilson can do so much with so little, what can you do to outperm yourself in a state of total wellness? 38

Vanishing BreedEuropean mink once thrived along waterways throughout most of Europe. The fur of this small mammal is soft and beautiful. But some people believed the fur of its relative the American mink was more desirable.Fur farmers released thousands of American mink in eastern Europe, and they sp throughout Europe. In the wild,American mink chased the other species away from the best hunting grounds. Now just a few hundred European mink remain――making them Europe’s most endangered mammal. To save the mink, scientists are establishing a breeding population of them on an island in the BALTIC SEA.Without help, says David Macdonald of Oxd University’s Wildlife Conservation Research in England, the European mink is“heading extinction 7
